[ARCHIVED] LARGE FLOCKS OF STARLINGS ROOSTING IN TOWN

The Town of Berryville has received several concerns about the presence of large flocks of starlings roosting in various neighborhoods.  In hopes of abating some of the concerns, the Berryville Police Department will be conducting disruption activities which include the use of specialized pyrotechnics approved for this purpose.  This activity will mainly take place during the hours of dusk in the northwest sector of town.  Residents should be alerted that these pyrotechnics utilize noise to move the birds from roosting areas.

The birds are looking for denser cover among evergreen trees and shrubs to provide warmth and protection from the elements.  Residents experiencing this issue should explore the potential for thinning trees where the birds roost to make the area less attractive.  They can also engage in disruption activities using noise, such as banging metal pans, but the discharge of firearms within the town limits is prohibited.
