Work to repair a storm water pipe and pave a portion of Virginia Avenue will require an area of the street to be closed for extended periods over one to two days. This notice will provide Virginia Avenue residents with information about the project and associated street closure/detour.
Project
While Public Works personnel were addressing a concern about street pavement subsidence, a significant problem was discovered in the pipe that conveys water from the entrance of Virginia Avenue to the Town Run.
To address this matter the Town has hired a contractor to remove the old pipe, install a new pipe, and repave Virginia Avenue from Main Street to the Town Run. Because Virginia Avenue is quite narrow, the portion of the street between Main Street and the Town Run bridge will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project.
Schedule
Work will begin on the project at 7:00 a.m. on September 21, 2020. The Town has granted permission for the contractor to work beyond typical work hours in hopes that the project can be completed in one day. If the contractor is unable to complete the project on September 21, work would begin again at 7:00 a.m. on September 22, 2020. The Town does not expect that the work will extend beyond September 22.
Street Closure
As stated above, Virginia Avenue between Main Street and the Town Run will be closed during this project.
Detour
Adjacent land owners have been kind enough to grant the Town permission to provide a detour for essential local traffic during the project. Accordingly, residents may use an established detour (shown on the attached map) for essential trips. Residents are asked to minimize trips, observe a speed limit of 5 MPH while in the detour, observe other signs and markings, and minimize damage to the properties over which the detour has been established. Should they choose to do so, residents may park vehicles in parking spaces on Main Street or at the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center (located on Chalmers Court).
The Town will notify fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies of this street closure/detour.
The Town will notify the United States Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx of the closure/detour.
