[ARCHIVED] NOTICE: STREET CLOSURE AND WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION

NOTICE

Street Closure and Water Service Interruption

Location of street closure:

Eastbound lane of Main Street east of its intersection with Church Street to Chalmers Court.

Customers likely affected by

the water service interruption:

All customers on Main Street east of its intersection with Church Street to the entrance to Rose Hill Park and the following occupancies on South Church Street: 2, 3, 5, 8, 11, 13, & 17.

Dates during which street

section may be closed:

The closure is expected to occur during project hours on April 28 & 29, as required to complete the work.

Project hours:

Work in the area is expected to commence daily at no earlier than 7:30 a.m. and end no later than 9:00 p.m.

Water service interruption

expected (date/times):

Water service is expected to be interrupted (as described above) on April 29, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

After water service has been interrupted in an area, typically some amount of air will become entrained in the water distribution system. When this occurs, the water at your tap will appear cloudy. If after water service has been reestablished, you have cloudy water coming from your water tap, then please run cold water until the cloudiness disappears.

Project Summary:

This work is necessitated by a recent vehicular accident which damaged the fire hydrant in service at the intersection of Main and Church Streets. The accident in question damaged piping that serves the hydrant; therefore, the work required to replace the hydrant will be extensive. As a part of this project, Town personnel will:

                        • excavate the area,
                        • replace the piping that will serve the new hydrant,
                        • install a new fire hydrant, and
                        • install a temporary patch on the sidewalk and in the street.

What should be expected

during the project?

During the project, people in the area will experience:

street closures, traffic detours, and typical construction-related noise, vibration, and dust.

NOTE: Rock, concrete, and/or pavement may have to be removed during the project by use of hoe ram and jack hammer.

During the project, people in the areas will experience a water service interruption. It is possible that during this work unplanned water service interruptions will occur. It is also possible that planned water service interruptions will have wider scopes and longer durations than expected.

Subsequent Work:

At some time in the future, temporary patching installed during the project will be removed and replaced with concrete (sidewalk) and asphalt (street).
