[ARCHIVED] FRAUD ALERT

FRAUD ALERT

January 17, 2017

The Berryville Police Department has been made aware of a telephone scam involving the billing department for the Town of Berryville Utilities Department.  Residents of Berryville are receiving phone calls stating that they are delinquent in paying their water bill and must pay immediately over the phone, and are being threatened with a cut-off of water service.  This is a scam; please do not ever provide personal or credit card information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.  The Town of Berryville never calls requesting payment over the phone for any service.  If a water account is legitimately in arrears, a notice is sent via mail through the United States Postal Service and never by phone.
